The Story of MGPS
How It All Began
It has been one year since the former queen of the magical kingdom of Juraihelm passed away. During the absence of a queen, the balance of Gemini has tilted towards evil. As queen, Tsunami must restore Gemini to its original balance. She must meet a kindred spirit on the planet called Earth. When this girl bestows Juraihelm with the light of goodness, Tsunami will become the true queen.
Tsunami's kindred spirit on Earth is Sasami Kawai, an average, happy fourth-grader. However, Sasami is not thrilled with the idea of being a magical girl, and is even less so when she sees her new costume. She isn't given much of choice in the matter, though, as Tsunami returns to Juraihelm before Sasami can return the magic baton to her. Tsunami leaves behind Ryo-Ohki, who is also from Juraihelm, to guide Sasami on her new path as Magical Girl Pretty Sammy.
Making Pretty Sammy's job even more difficult is Pixy Misa, an evil magical girl created by Ramia, who was one of the three candidates for the position of queen. If Pretty Sammy is unable to restore the balance of Gemini, then Tsunami will lose her position and someone else (herself, Ramia hopes), will become queen.
The History of Juraihelm and the Earth
Long ago, Juraihelm and Earth were twin planets. Over many years, the two planets began taking their own courses. Based on their spiritual culture, Juraihelm developed magic. The Earth advanced a materialistic culture. Magic on the Earth became obsolete and Juraihelm became submerged in its spiritual world. But at the core of Juraihelm, the plan to normalize the relationship between the two planets has never died. A spiritual culture and a materialistic culture - only when they are side by side can an ideal world be created.
Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, or Magical Project S, as it was released as in North America, is a spoof of magical girl shows such as Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura and Wedding Peach, using the characters from the anime series Tenchi Muyo in an alternate universe-type setting.
The show's 26 episodes were initially released on eight tapes by Pioneer Entertainment (USA) L.P., who also re-released the series on two DVD sets, and the Mihoshi Special and three Pretty Sammy OAV episodes on one DVD approximately three years ago. For more information, visit 'Links' page.
